JOHANNESBURG - Struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has passed away at the age of 81. The Mandela family issued a statement on Monday, stating, "It is with profound sadness that we inform the public that Mrs Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed away at the Netcare Milpark Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday 2 April 2018. "She died after a long illness, for which she had been in and out of the hospital since the start of the year. She succumbed peacefully in the early hours of Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones. "Mrs Madikizela-Mandela was one of the greatest icons of the struggle against Apartheid. She fought valiantly against the Apartheid state and sacrificed her life for the freedom of the country. Her activism and resistance to Apartheid landed her in jail on numerous occasions, eventually causing her banishment to the small town of Brandfort in the then Orange Free State. John Okon, the owner of Collabor Hotel, an inn on Ige Street, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, has been arrested along with the hotel manager, Emmanuel Thomas, for allegedly hosting underage sex workers in the facility. It was gathered that operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, acting on intelligence, busted the hotel on Saturday, March 10, 2018, and caught a 15-year-old primary school leaver allegedly engaging in prostitution. The girl was said to have been brought from her village in the eastern part of the country by one Monica Ita, a few weeks ago, on the pretext that she (Ita) would get her a good job. Oone Destiny Bassey, 19, and 18-year-old Bright Effiong, who was said to have been at the inn for three years, were also picked up by the operatives. The hotel operators admitted to providing service for the sex workers, except the 15-year-old girl. A yet to be identified young man reportedly killed a dolphin at Ibeno local government in Akwa Ibom State. The photos were shared by a Facebook user. See photos below... A few weeks back, a hunter had reportedly gunned down a huge elephant at janiyi camp, idanre, ondo state and posed with the animal’s carcass in the pictures. It was gathered that the animal has been causing menace in the community, destroying the crops planted in the farmlands.
